Current
Delta Confusions

| Starting in 2005, we noticed that online mapping
services, headed up by Google, were confusing Delta Islands and waterway
names. Google, in particular, was notified by both individual
Delta land owners, and by the survey office of Solano, to our personal
knowledge. Google continued to mix up Delta island and waterway
names until about 2010 where Google simply eliminated most of the island
names instead of making corrections. In the meantime, because
Google seems to have the contracts with all the governmental agencies,
some formerly accurate agencies whose data used to be correct now show
wrong data for certain areas of the Delta. To track the progress
(or lack thereof) of our requests for corrections to the website, the
following page links will be updated as information becomes available.
In the meantime, heres a summary of just what little old Snug Harbor has
been going through...this type of thing is happening to MANY of the
businesses in the Delta folks! |

July 2011: NOAA webmaster contacted me to
let me know they have had problems with Google mapping and the incorrect
labeling of Steamboat Slough as either Sacramento River or Seven Mile
Sough would be fixed! |

CalTrans response to my request for information
indicating why CalTrans Bay Area map online shows as Ryer Island as a
"lake": CalTrans took down the map and did not provide an answer
other than "we made a mistake". |

We tried to send email to get this corrected.
Email bounced back. But the "national atlas" also seems
wrong...more mapping to correct! |

The current map for the BDCP lists Steamboat
Slough as the Sacramento River. Why? This is intentional on
their part, for sure. |

|
The last flood maps listed the road as "Hidden
Harbor" and the latest one calls it "Port Lane" even though Snug Harbor
Drive was officially named that in 1985. |

This company continues to confuse data from the
two Ryer Islands in Solano County! I've seen several maps where
Ryer Island of the Suisun Marsh area is listed as "River Island"-who
made up that name? |
| Google |
Since 2005 Google has been incorrectly labeling
Snug Harbor Drive |
As of July 2011, some Google maps FINALLY list
Snug Harbor Drive correctly, but other Google maps still call it Port
Lane. The mislabeling of Ryer Island and Snug Harbor Drive started
in 2005 by Google, from what we can tell following records backwards in
time. |
