You can click on the maps and graphics below to see larger versions of each.  Note that some of the links take you to other websites that have information about travel on Steamboat Slough in the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta region in the 1850's to 1900's.  The maps clearly indicate the importance of Steamboat Slough to navigation and also to salmon travel through the Delta.

Above is a 2011 painting based on the 1850 map showing the marker for the second second of the "Middle Fork" of the Sacramento River, which very soon thereafter was referred to as Steamboat Slough!
